I stumbled upon Yosuke Inoue while researching avant-garde artists and manga artists in a book somewhere. He may have written picture books and gentle stories later, but this book can be called a best-of collection, gathering only Inoue Yosuke's most aggressively experimental works. "Sade's Egg," for example, I knew about before I even read it, so it might be his representative work. Reading it, the word "life" comes to mind in every story. They might have been born into a chaotic world of darkness with unreasonable origins. Even in an inhumane world that outsiders can't understand at all, it might make some sense to those who live within it. I feel like he's constantly depicting a kind of cruel peace that creatures destined to be born into darkness obtain, and I feel a sense of brutality in ourselves, who can somehow sense the opposite of that, a sense of security.
